Statement by Senator John McCain Applauding Senate Indian Affairs Committee's Passage of the Keep the Promise Act of 2015

Statement

Date: April 29, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today applauding the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs' passage of the Keep the Promise Act of 2015, legislation that would effectively block the Tohono O'odham Nation from opening an Indian casino in Glendale, Arizona:

"I am pleased that the Senate Indian Affairs Committee has advanced this legislation in the Senate. I introduced this bill because of objections raised by a number of Arizona mayors and other local-elected officials who do not approve of this or any other Indian casino being airdropped in their communities. I will continue to push this legislation forward in order to put an end to the highly controversial off-reservation gaming issue."
